Roamless promo code or referral code — you only get one
The rule
Roamless’s documentation states the rule three different ways across three pages: “cannot be combined”, “choose one at checkout”, and “only the highest reward value will be added”. What they agree on is the part that matters: not on the same purchase.
That is narrower than “pick one and lose the other”, which is what most guides — and an earlier version of this page — said. The two rewards attach to different things: the referral is one-shot per device, a promo code applies per purchase. So the usual best play is not a choice at all.
The arithmetic
The referral is a flat US$5. A promo is usually a percentage. So:
| Your first top-up | Referral (flat US$5) | 20% promo | Better |
|---|---|---|---|
| US$10 | $5.00 | $2.00 | Referral |
| US$20 | $5.00 | $4.00 | Referral |
| US$25 | $5.00 | $5.00 | Even |
| US$50 | $5.00 | $10.00 | Promo |
| US$100 | $5.00 | $20.00 | Promo |
With a 20% promo the break-even is US$25. Adjust it for whatever percentage you actually have:
the referral wins below 5 ÷ (percentage), the promo wins above it.
The better play: both, in order
Because the referral triggers on a first purchase of at least US$5 and promo codes apply per purchase, the sequence usually beats the choice:
- First top-up, US$5 — use the referral code. You get US$5, and so does whoever referred you.
- Later, larger top-up — use whatever percentage promo you have.
You end up with the referral reward and the promo discount, just not on the same transaction. Roamless’s Campaign Terms note that where offers do collide, “only the highest reward value will be added” — so this only fails if you try to stack them on one purchase.
Two things the table does not capture
The referral pays someone else too. US$5 also goes to whoever referred you. If that matters to you — you were sent here by a friend, say — it is worth US$10 between you rather than US$5 to you.
The referral is one-shot per device; promos are not. A referral code can only be entered once on a device, so if you use it you have used it. Promo codes apply per purchase and stay available for later top-ups. If you are planning several trips, spending the referral on the first small top-up and keeping promos for the large ones is usually the better order.
Where each one goes
They are entered in different places, which trips people up:
- Referral code — in the app, before your first purchase
- Promo code — at checkout, when you pay
If a referral code is rejected at checkout, that is why. See code not working.
How we checked this
Roamless’s own support documentation states the no-combining rule, the US$5 referral amount, the US$5 minimum purchase and the 30-day window. The percentages in the table above are illustrative arithmetic, not a claim about any specific promo — promo values change, and we do not publish promo amounts we have not verified on the day. Frequently asked questions
Can I use both a Roamless promo code and a referral code?
No. Roamless states that referral and promo codes cannot be combined and that you must choose one at checkout before payment.
Which one should I pick?
Work out what the promo is worth on your actual top-up. A flat US$5 referral beats a 20% promo on anything under US$25; above that the promo pulls ahead. And the referral also pays US$5 to the person who referred you, which a promo does not.
Can I use a referral code now and a promo code later?
The referral code can only be entered once per device, so it is a one-time decision on that phone. Promo codes apply per purchase, so they remain available for later top-ups.
