This is a running log of every change to Public Mobile’s refer-a-friend offer, newest first. Each entry is dated. Sources are Public Mobile’s own help pages, official announcements on its community forum, and archived copies of both. If we can’t confirm a change from an official source, it doesn’t get an entry. Our process is documented on the how we verify page.
The short version, as of September 1, 2026: no bonus promo is running. The standard offer applies — a new customer who enters any referral code gets a one-time $10 credit, and the referrer earns 1 Public Point every 30 days the friend stays. Every code pays the same $10, including the referral code on this page, so ignore any site promising more. Ready to use it? 2026
September 1, 2026 — Referral code re-tested at checkout on both carriers
The code on this site was entered during live activations at Public Mobile and Fizz and was accepted in both. Nothing about either offer changed — this closes the checkout test the August 31 round did not reach, and both sites’ “last verified” stamps now read September 1.
August 31, 2026 — Plan lineup replaced; credit timeline corrected to Public Mobile’s posted terms
Two changes, both verified against publicmobile.ca today.
New plan lineup. The talk-and-text-only plan is gone — unlimited talk and text is now bundled into every plan. The lineup is: 4G at $20/1GB, $24/5GB, $28/10GB and $30/35GB (all Canada-wide); 5G at $35/50GB (Canada-wide), and Canada–US–Mexico 5G tiers at $35/25GB, $40/75GB, $45/125GB and $50/175GB (with 1,000 international minutes). Five of these carry a “Back to School” limited-time flag. Compared with the July lineup: 10GB went $26 → $28, the top three 5G tiers each gained data (70→75GB, 100→125GB, 150→175GB), and $20/1GB and $35/25GB are new.
Credit timeline corrected. We previously said the $10 credit arrives “within 72 hours” — the window Public Mobile support and the community consistently quote. Public Mobile’s own posted referral terms say something different: “Bill credits will appear on your account 4-8 weeks after activation.” Official terms outrank community reports, so we have changed our stated timeline to 4–8 weeks. The $10 amount is unchanged.
The referral offer itself is unchanged: $10 for the new customer on any plan, 1 Public Point per 30 days for the referrer, and no bonus promo running.
August 19, 2026 — CS_Agent retired; Expert Messaging replaces it (logged retroactively)
Not a referral change, but it matters because it is how you fix a missed referral code. Public Mobile announced that as of August 19, 2026 the CS_Agent community-forum profile no longer handles new tickets, replaced by Expert Messaging in My Account (chat window at the bottom right → Message Centre). Our add-a-code-afterwards, code-not-working and le code ne fonctionne pas guides told people to message CS_Agent; that advice was dead for twelve days before we caught it on August 31. All three now describe the Expert Messaging route — though the French page was missed in the first pass and corrected only after a second sweep the same day, which is exactly the kind of gap a bilingual site has to watch for.
June 5 – July 7, 2026 — Referral bonus contest ran (logged retroactively)
Public Mobile ran a referral promotion we did not log at the time: referrers earned a special $10 bonus credit per successful referral on top of the usual point, capped at five per customer, plus an entry to win one year of service. It ran June 5, 2026 9:30AM to July 7, 2026 11:59PM ET. The bonus credit posted 4–8 weeks after the referee’s activation. This entry was added on August 31, 2026 after we found the promotion in Public Mobile’s own refer-a-friend terms; missing it was a gap in this log, and we would rather record that than quietly backfill it.
July 14, 2026 — Plan lineup refreshed; referral deep link re-verified on the live site
We walked the live activation flow today. Two findings. First, a new plan lineup: $22 talk & text, 4G at $24/5GB, $26/10GB and $30/35GB, 5G at $35/50GB, and Canada-US-Mexico 5G tiers at $40/70GB, $45/100GB and $50/150GB (top tiers include 1,000 international minutes). Second, referral links work even better than documented: opening a ?referral= link makes Public Mobile display a “You received a referral credit” confirmation immediately, with the $10 applied automatically after activation. The referral offer itself is unchanged — $10, any plan, no bonus promo active.
July 13, 2026 — Baseline re-verified: standard $10, no bonus
We checked the official refer-a-friend help page and the community announcements board today. No referral bonus is active. New customer: one-time $10 credit, applied within 72 hours of activation, on any plan. Referrer: 1 Public Point per 30 days per active referral, uncapped, for as long as the friend stays a customer.
June 26, 2026 — PMDATA10 promo code ends
Not a referral change, but it matters because the two stack: promo codes go in a separate field beside the “Referral Code” box at Step 4 (Payment). PMDATA10 gave 10GB of free data and expired June 26, 2026. More on combining promo and referral codes.
June 12, 2026 — Plan lineup refreshed
New “limited time” lineup: $22 talk and text, $25/25GB 4G, $29/35GB 4G, $35/40GB 5G, $40/100GB 5G. Plans change near-monthly; the $10 referral credit applies on any plan, so lineup shuffles never affect it. See the current plans.
April 2026 — Plan revamp, and Koodo “Fast Switch” ads appear in signup
Public Mobile revamped its 5G plans to match Freedom’s pricing ($40/100GB, $45/175GB). The bigger referral story: TELUS began showing Koodo “Fast Switch” upsell ads inside Public Mobile’s signup and login flow. 2025
October 15, 2025 — Public Points devalued; referral earning untouched
Points-back on payments dropped from 5% to 2%, and the anniversary bonus dropped from 10 points to 5. The referral earn rate — 1 point per 30 days per active referral — did not change. Full breakdown on our Public Points page.
September 17 – October 6, 2025 — $10 referrer bonus round
For friends activating on plans of $35/month and up, referrers got an extra $10 credit per referral, capped at five bonuses. The official announcement also reconfirmed the new customer’s standard credit: $10, no minimum plan.
June 24 – July 2, 2025 — Third $15 bonus round
Same terms as the May round below. This was the last time a new customer could get more than $10 from a referral code.
June 3 – 9, 2025 — Second $15 bonus round
Identical repeat of the May terms.
May 13 – 19, 2025 — First $15 bonus round
On plans of $29/month and up, both sides earned an extra $15 credit: the new customer’s total reached $25 ($10 standard + $15 bonus) and the referrer got $15, limit one bonus per referrer, paid within 45 days. Official announcement. This week and its two repeats above are where other sites get their “up to $25” and “up to $40” claims. Those windows closed in 2025.
2024
May 2024 — Legacy rewards program retired
Customers who joined before 2022 were force-moved from the old rewards program — which paid referrers $1 in automatic bill credits every 30 days per friend — onto Public Points. The move drew heavy backlash: over 1,500 forum replies and mass CCTS complaints. The new customer’s $10 referral credit was not affected. Official announcement.
2022
January 25, 2022 — Public Points launches
Referral earning switched from $1 per 30 days in automatic bill credits to 1 Public Point per 30 days per active referral (1 point = $1 when redeemed; 15 points = $15 off your bill). The friend’s one-time $10 credit carried over unchanged. Launch announcement.
The pattern, in one paragraph
Since 2022, the friend-side credit has moved exactly once — up to $25 for three short windows in 2025, then back to $10. Bonus rounds are brief (one to three weeks), announced on the community forum, and usually carry a minimum plan. Everything else that changed either trimmed referrer points or didn’t touch referrals at all. If a bonus round returns, this page will log it the day we verify it. Is there a Public Mobile referral bonus right now?
No. As of September 1, 2026, the standard offer applies: the new customer gets a one-time $10 credit and the referrer earns 1 Public Point every 30 days. The last bonus round ended July 7, 2026.
Will the $15 or $25 referral bonus come back?
Nobody outside Public Mobile knows. Bonus rounds ran three times in May–July 2025, once in September 2025, and once more June 5 – July 7, 2026. We check the official announcements board and log any change here with its date.
Does a referral code stack with a promo code?
